Clubhouse 36 is an out-of-school program designed to provide consistent, connected and professionally-operated programming for at-risk and vulnerable Surrey students aged 6-12.

The program provides an encouraging and nurturing environment for kids to build confidence and self-esteem through social and emotional support as well as sport, art, peer mediation, leadership and academic learning. It allows students to try a wide variety of new activities; to develop new passions and interests; to consider new goals for their future; and, to develop increased independence that will support them inside and outside the classroom.

Clubhouse 36 was piloted in July 2015 at Holly Elementary, Lena Shaw Elementary and Georges Vanier Elementary schools. It offers skills development activities for students two days each week during the school year, as well as full-day programming during spring and summer breaks.

An important component of the program is to enhance social and emotional connections between the children and  positive adult role models.IMG_3421.JPG

Students participating in Clubhouse 36 represent a diverse range of cultural, linguistic and ethnic backgrounds. All students participate at no cost to their families and are identified to participate by school-based staff.

n important component of the program is to enhance social and emotional connections between the children and with positive adult role models.

Clubhouse 36 is operated by Surrey Schools and the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. The program has been made possible with the support of the Sedin Family Foundation and Westland Insurance, as well as the Robert L. Conconi Foundation and Bosa Properties Foundation. Other donors include BMO and Canucks for Kids Fund.

Learning how to communicate and cooperate in a respectful and positive manner results in greater self-esteem and new friendships.IMG_3282 - Framed.JPG
